Eating out in Stoke on Trent

I had been to the UK on a business trip. Due to my love for pottery, I was directed to visit Stoke-on-Trent a city in North Staffordshire. I reached there in the morning and by noon I had purchased gifts for my entire family and friends. After the purchases fulfilled my desire of pottery, I was very hungry. A colleague had suggested, where in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire I must visit this excellent Indian restaurant which serves genuine Indian food. What? I was apprehensive, genuine Indian taste in Stoke on Trent! I just could not believe it. I had eaten at other Indian restaurants abroad; they were very expensive and did not really give the taste of genuine Indian food. The food mostly suited the taste of Indians settled in the UK or British who wanted to try out some Indian food. But not for an Indian who had come for a short trip to the UK, and had landed in Stoke-on-Trent to buy pottery.

I was told that the restaurant is called Thali. Thali would mean a platter in English. I did not expect too much from an Indian restaurant based in Stoke-on-Trent. But to my surprise, when I entered the place I found that they did not have any male waiters. All their entire staff was women, who had come out to help in the restaurant.  They were very kind and welcomed me on behalf of Stoke-on-Trent and also suggested I could visit other Indian restaurants in Stoke-on-Trent for dinner.

As I am a vegetarian, I did not want to eat any meat.  I was advised a course normally followed in India with excellent starters, followed by curries, rotis (Indian bread) and ended with an excellent sweet dish. With my tummy full with such tasty food, I could not believe I just ate genuine Indian food, that too in Stoke onTrent. The staff was great, service was excellent and the overall experience was out of the world. I am sure when I go back home, I will take the excellent memories of Stoke-on-Trent which will include pottery and good food.  I can say with certainty that one of the best Indian food, I ate out of India was in this restaurant in Stoke-on-Trent.
